The Tempest (William Shakespeare), London: Freemantle & Co., 1901, Illustrated by Robert Anning Bell – one of 174 Numbered Copies Signed by the artist. Thus, a First Edition, this being # 159. A leather bound copy w/ green/blueish marbled end papers (please see picture), top edge gilt (others uncut), and publisher’s yap edged vellum (please see pictures). Additionally, frontispiece/pictorial title page, 25 full page illustrations + many half page. No silk ties with this copy. Opposite title page, bottom section glued in place (please see picture) which caused a bit of browning/fade on next page (Title Page/Please see picture).

This is a Very Good to Near Fine Copy; with some light shelf wear, signs of aging, and light rub to book and slipcase (which is in Very Good Condition/Please see picture). Please note there is imprint/stamp

on three pages containing the words “Strathmore Artist” - stamp/imprint is about the size of dime and not in ink to indicate the quality of the paper I believe (Please see picture). These are located on the 4th page prior to artist’s signature page, the 9th page, and after the last page of book. Please check out photographs and ask questions as they arise. A beautiful copy of a classic regardless, and as it occurs to me, simply a rare and precious treasure.
