Tannhauser: A Dramatic Poem Wagner Rolleston Pogany 1911 VG Cond. See Below!
Hardcover/First Edition. Condition: Very Good (see pictures please). Tannhauser: A Dramatic Poem By Wagner, Richard; Rolleston, T.W. (Translation), and Pogany, Willy (illustrator), published by Thomas Y. Crowell & Co., New York, 1911. First edition [thus] based on the colophon, which states, “The letterpress and fine illustrations lithographed by Vincent Brooks, Day and Sons Ltd. London, the four-colour plates printed by Henry Stone and Son Ltd. Banbury. A.D. MCMXL.” The grey cloth boards do show some shelf wear and some slight rubbing/ and or smudging, and a few small stray ink marks (please see pictures). The spine titles appear good with a touch of rubbing. The fine string binding and hinges are in good condition overall (although book is not perfectly square – please see pictures). The thick, cardstock-like deckled pages are clean inside and edges are in good shape with some wear (please see pictures). Overall, book is in good condition – especially considering it has been around for over a century. The artwork by Willy Pogany is amazing (done with such detail and complexity in terms of design as it occurs to me) to put it simply and breathes even more life into this interesting tale which deals w/ lust, love, indulgencies, broken heartedness, isolation, and asking for forgiveness.
